Microchipping

Microchip Implantation is important if your pet ever has the possibility of escaping from your yard or care, and if you travel a lot to different locations. There are numerous reasons why a pet may escape your environment, including but not limited to, the scent trail of another animal, the smell of food, and lack of stimulation at home. When a pet gets lost, they can encounter situations in which their collar may fall off, leaving a name tag and rabies tag insufficient for identification purposes. But if your pet has had a microchip implanted, you do not have to worry about such circumstances. All animal shelters carry a universal microchip scanner for pets that have been found. Additionally, if your pet was found by a person and brought to a veterinary clinic, the veterinary personnel would scan your pet to see if a microchip has been implanted. Your pet’s individual microchip number is then identified and the company is contacted to get your contact information.

Our Microchips & Recommendations

We offer in-clinic microchip implantation for your pet. The company we use at PAC is called DataMars (formerly ResQ). While the prior company was purchased recently and renamed, this actual microchip design has been around for years.

If you choose to have your puppy or kitten microchipped and are planning on neutering or spaying them, often times we recommend waiting until that surgical procedure as the needle is fairly large. If you decide to microchip your pet later in life, the animal is new to you, or if you do not plan on them getting spayed or neutered, no need to worry! We will implant microchips during a visit; in this circumstance, we just administer a local block anesthetic under the skin prior to implantation.
